Many couples marry legally at a UK register office, a short statutory ceremony with two witnesses, before or after the trip, whichever suits. Sicily is then purely the celebration.

What this route gives you is complete freedom. Any venue on the island, no licence needed, any celebrant, any wording, any time of day: a sunset ceremony on a terrace, vows written yourselves, a friend leading everything. There is no Italian paperwork at all, and it works even at short notice. The legal side needs no help from anyone; our own service is the legal route, so if this is your shape, a quick call will point you in the right direction.

The marriage itself happens in Sicily

The moment you say your vows is the moment you are married. The certificate says Sicily, and the day your family and friends remember is the day you really got married.

This route involves real paperwork in a set order: the certificate of no impediment, a bilingual sworn declaration, the apostille and sworn translations, a declaration before the registrar a few days ahead, and the ceremony itself with the interpreter and witnesses Italian law requires. The whole sequence is set out here, and running it is the heart of what we do: the comune (the local council) dealt with in Italian, every document checked, and the interpreter at your side at the declaration and the ceremony, usually the same person who has guided you from the start.

The paperwork runs comfortably in four to six months, and the ceremony can happen at any of the places the comuni have authorised: their own castles, cloisters and palazzi, or private gardens and beaches holding a current authorisation.

Feeling, or simplicity?

The register office route is the simple one: no Italian paperwork, complete freedom, and it works at short notice.

The Sicily route is the one you feel. Really getting married in Sicily is that bit more special, and your family and friends will remember the day as the day you got married, not just a great party.

With more than about six months to your date, there is time for either, so the choice is yours to make on feel rather than logistics. If you are undecided, that is the normal state to arrive in, and it is exactly what a call is for.
